I have a question….

Last week I started the C25K program on my iTouch. Now before I go any further, I don’t run, I don’t sprint, I jog but I felt this was a good start to all of this. Also I have repeated day 1 twice and day 2 twice only because I can’t catch my breath after each 1 minute jogging. It does get easier about the 1/2 way point but it’s hard. It is extremely hard. I am trying really hard to do this but for me jogging is new, hard and a bit discouraging. Now that doesn’t mean I’m going to quit because I’m not. I am going to work at this for a long time, if that means week 1 for a month then that’s what it will be.

Now my question is, is there a secret when it comes to breathing?  Also after two days in a row of doing this my calves hurt. I do stretch before and after, is there another secret I need to know? Please help me. I really want to do this. Also with winter coming I can no longer get in 4-5 miles a night of walking for an hour so I had to do something so figured a 30 minute walk/jog would be an excellent way to go. I don’t have a treadmill so that means walking outside at 20* or so and sucking in that chilly air is a bit sharp too.

I need ideas, comments, help. Please.

Okay off to work on snack for the kids. Take care and God Bless!!!

Is it possible to walk/run in place?

I suggest breathing, as the alternative is not that great..

Practice breathing in and out only through your nose. I don't know where the fallacy about breathing out through your mouth got started, but it doesn't do much for you. If you practice while not running, it'll be easier to breathe deeply when you're running. I'm no doctor but this was what worked for me before I got injured.

You should not be doing this two days in a row, you are suppose to have a day of rest between runs.... I completed the program by doing it on Sunday, Tuesday's and Thursday's. I tried this program once before and rushed it and had to quit....

I am just catching up on blog reading since fall break. I do not have any advice for the breathing. BUT!, I do want to congratulate you on 5 pounds lost at your last 100 Hottie update. That is fantastic! Michele

I don't run and barely walk, but do the exercycle. I started slowly and for just a few moments at a time. Built my way up. Ok, BUILDING. I still don't do much at a time. Breathe deeply. Vee at http://veegettinghealthy.blogspot.com

The breathing is my problem to. I asked my husband because he runs and he said to breathe in through your nose and out through your nose but when I try to do this I just don't feel like I'm getting enough oxygen in through my nose. I guess its just something you have to keep working on.

I always thought breathing while exercising gets better with time. You're getting better.

late to this and youve already gotten some great tips.

NOSE BREATHE and yet I started as a mouth-breathe :) and just slowly it all shifted as I grew more used to /comfortable running.

You don't know me, but you encourage me.....so I'd love to recommend Leslie Sansone for walking in the winter. www.walkathome.com. I started her DVDs in May and am addicted! I also follow a blog that my niece started: helpmewalkawaythepounds.blogspot.com

Right now there's a 21 day challenge going on at walkathome that you'll see referenced on the helpmewalkawaythepounds blog..

You should definitely try it!'

Keep up the good work!!
