First, it’s Friday and that means Java's Follow Friday 40 and Over. Stop on over and take a peek.

Also, did you notice anything? Java made me another button this time for my main blog. It is so cool and I love it. Thank you Java, truly thank you!!!

Next is my update on Steve's Hot 100. Remember I joined the challenge for the last 100 days of 2010. My goals are listed on the side and well, I wasn’t perfect at all. It’s a good thing this was just the first week because other then following #1, working on my weight loss I didn’t do to well with #2, fish flopping exercises and #3 meal planning. Why is is so hard to just sit down Sunday evening and write up a menu? Why is it so hard to work with my weights? Well tomorrow is still part of this week along with Saturday so I could get two days of exercise in anyways. So far this week I’ve logged 10.3 miles of walking with new distant, 5 miles and new speeds, 3.8 mph. I cleaned out my closet today too, found 3 pairs of shorts that are too big and 2 pairs that were now just right. YEAH!!! I don’t weigh in until Monday so will post that then.

Do you know what BMR is? Basel Metabolic Rate. It’s how many calories you need to just survive. Go HERE to figure out what you need. Then go HERE to figure out how many calories you are burning with whatever exercise you are doing. Then take your BMR number, add your activity calories and then subtract your food calories from that total. If you're eating more than you're burning,  you'll gain weight. If you're burning more than you eat, you'll lose weight.

So for me, I need 1595 to survive. I walked 80 minutes today which burned 520 calories so adding them up it comes to 2115. After talling up my meals for today I ate 1335 calories. I’m in the hole 780 so that means if I did this every day I would lose a little over a pound a week. They say you need to cut 500 calories from your diet to lose a pound a week. Understand? I took me this whole week to finally figure it out. I asked two of my blog buddies for help with this too because for some reason I just couldn’t figure it out.

If you need more help understanding, go to and ask a question and after some researching you’ll get your answer or like me, before I did that I asked a couple of you guys and that helped me so much.

So that’s that my friends. I hope you all have the most blessed Friday and a terrific, relaxing, enjoyable weekend.

P.S. I have found another great Life Style Change blog hop. Check out my side bar and click and go.

Cooking with no clue…and the results are in…

Okay, wraps…I haven’t a clue what they were, never really knew because I don’t like soft taco shells so never took the time to look or even figure things out but….with trying to learn to eat a bit more healthy I made some enchiladas. Most of the ingredients I used were good for you, not the cheese but hey I’m pretty new at this. I of course didn’t use a recipe, just what looked good together. So here’s what I did…

I took these…plus pepper jack cheese…the green container is my green salsa.

End September 022

and made this…

End September 023

A layer of green salsa and cheese

 End September 025

Cooked chicken with the skin removed in olive oil, seasoned pepper, seasoned salt and garlic….

End September 027

Cheese on the bottom, seasoned rice and chicken mixture…

End September 028

All rolled up in a healthy wheat tortilla…

 End September 029

Topped with more green salsa and cheese…

End September 031

Baked at 350* for 40 minutes.

 End September 076

Here’s what’s left. It really was good. I mean really.

I know it’s not the most healthiest because of the cheese but the rest of the ingredients were good. Well I’m trying.

I have my weight……Drum roll please…..197!!! Just maybe I’m done being stuck at 199 3/4 and can get to work. I measured myself too, even though the weight didn’t change I lost another 7” of fat. Nothing again from my middle but the rest of me is improving. So it’s onward and upwards to 195, to a size 16 that’s comfortable, to a better me, a healthier me.

So a new week, a new adventure. In less then 12 days is our 5K walk competition. I’m excited and not in the least bit worried. I’m doing it, it is my first and it won’t be my last. I’ll just do my best and let the Lord do the rest. Time to walk a bit harder, stretch a bit more and work on some crunches to trim the middle.

Take care you all and God Bless!!!

Guess what Brenda and I did this morning?

Nope we didn’t walk, we’ve already did 15.30 miles this week so today we are taking off. Tomorrow, if it’s not raining, we’ll go play some tennis and go for a stroll around Deerwood.

Anyways, See!!! We just signed up for a 5K competition walk.

Comp walk

It’s exciting. We paid the fees today so got in on the early registration and we’ll get this cool T-shirt to boot. YEAH!!!

5K is just a bit over 3 miles and Brenda and I already walk 4 miles each time we go out plus we don’t walk at a stroll so thought we’d give the competition part a try. We don’t have to shoot for first, just to finish and have fun at the same time.

So next Saturday at 6:00 sharp, we’ll be hopping out of bed and heading to town to register and get started on our very first competition walk. Wish us lucky!!

Monday I’ll weigh in and measure and see what surprises are in store. There’s only 98 days after today till the end of 2010. Hey by the way, did you stop at Steve's, Hot 100? There’s still 6 more days to sign up for this great challenge. I did and wrote this about my goals...

So now, have a great and blessed Friday, a terrific, relaxing and rejuvenating weekend. Take care my friends.

100 days…

What is 100 days you asked? That’s all that’s left in this year, 100 days until 2011. 100 days to reach any goals you’ve set for this year. That means just 100 days for me to lose 20 lbs. You know mostly this isn’t about the weight loss though, it’s about all the lessons I’ve learned this year on my life style change.

Now every day I get something great in my e-box. I get Debbi Does Dieting... My Dieting Diary and today was exceptional great. Debbie has showed me a new challenge, a new idea, a new way to remember that there’s just a short time before 2010 is over and 2011 is on it’s way.

South Beach Steve has offered to host a super cool idea and challenge.

Remember when I said I wanted a challenge? Well this is it. There’s a few rules and incentives too, like prizes. Go Here and read, think and join. Gotta hurry though since tomorrow is the start of 100 days to 2011, but you do have until October 1st to join but you want all the 100 days to work on this.

My part of the joining is to post 3 goals I want to achieve before December 31st, 2010, post at least weekly, and read, comment on others that are joining in on this challenge. I can do this.

There are other places I try and join in on a weekly bases, there’s Angie at her Healthy Living Blog and her Watch My Weight Wednesday and there’s Charlie at Back to the Fridge and his train to Onderland.

So my goals that I want to achieve or keep working on this year are….

1. Lose the last 20 lbs of the 45 I wanted to lose this year. But to do this I need to do….

2. Exercise regularly. Right now I’ve been walking 4 miles a day, 4 times a week but I need to do more, not in the walking part, because other then speeding it up just a bit more I think that has been great. I need to work on my core muscles. I need to do those crunches. I need to find some exercises that work the cord muscles without bothering my back so. I want to get rid of the bat wings too.

3. Since I’m not a snacker anymore, thank goodness I need to put more thought in our meals. With both my hubby and son eating huge meals at lunch time at work and not coming home hungry until quite late I need to plan my day accordingly. I have daycare and some of the stuff they love is not on my list of eating possibilities. So I need to plan better. So really that means meal plans, that’s one of my goals.

So in a nut shell, if I exercise and plan my meals with healthy foods then my #1 will just happen. The last 20 lbs should leave.

So there you have it guys, gals, everyone… Go Here and read, fall in love and join this challenge. It’ll be good for you, it’ll be good for me, it’ll be great for our bodies.

Good luck and you know, if you do join, would you please stop by and tell me you did so I can be positive to watch, listen, learn and support you all the way. I try to do this already but I know I’m not as good as I’d like to be on all you that follow me. I do sure appreciate all that you’ve talked me in your comments.

Take care and God Bless!!!

Green Tomato Bread….Smells divine….

I decided not to rewrite this recipe. I love having it in my grandma’s handwriting so I took a picture of it for you. You can click on it, get it bigger and just print it out if you’d like. I did change it just a bit and the second picture shows my changes. I tried to make it a bit healthier.

Mid September 062

Mid September 075

My changes….

Mid September 064 Mid September 071

I also have my own eggs and I loved that the egg was a double yoke.

Mid September 060 Mid September 066

                       Mid September 073

And the bread……….I baked it for 50 minutes instead of the 60 minutes so just keep an eye on it for the last 10 minutes.

 Mid September 078

Can you smell it? I wish we had smell-o-blogs. I think you’d just have to bake some today.

So there you have it, our baking for today. Hannah loves to help me and Justin loves the clean up, you know liking the spoons, bowls, counter…anything that just might have something goodness on it.

Now it’s off to the great outdoors for chores and some play time. Maybe even a walk in the woods to see what leaves we can collect for our art and craft project this afternoon.

Take care and do have a blessed day.

Short story…happy ending….

So it’s about 9:00 in the morning on a gray type day and I’m getting ready for a short shopping trip with Jim. He’s sitting on the side of the bed and we’re just chatting a bit and yesterday I had spent some time in our closet looking for something to make me look sexy for our day out today. Anyways, I have a pair of jeans that fit in the middle, sorta but the legs and butt are huge. I wanted to share the progress with Jim so tried them on and he just giggles and said, sorta half heartily, maybe you can wear my jeans. Well about a month ago I tried his on and had to lay down to zip them up but just for the hey of it I grabbed his work jeans and ….. well I put them on, zipped them and and I can breath. I mean they fit. The really fit nice, I had no muffin top, nice behinder and my legs looked sweet.

To make things even better, I now weigh 15 lbs less then Jim. I haven’t weighed less then Jim since Mike was born. YEAH!!!

A perfect beginning to a new week.  The end.

I hope you have a great week. It’s a new one, one to start over and begin fresh or to continue on with you life style changes. Good luck to you all.

Take care and God Bless!!

Friday, September 17, 2010

Yesterday I got this from E-mail Ministries. It is part of my morning devotions. I thought this was the perfect thing to share with you this Saturday morning. Time is something we seem to have so little of, we need to set what is most important to us and then let the rest follow. Please take that time today and just reflex, relax and enjoy what is the most important, our families!!!

A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door.

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The
funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old
newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

"Jack, did you hear me?"

"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said. "Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him. "I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said. "You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said. "He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away. The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time. Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture.... Jack stopped suddenly.
"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked. "The box is gone," he said.
"What box? " Mom asked. "There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was the thing I value most,'" Jack said. It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it. "Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read.

Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside.
"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved: "Jack, Thanks for your time! Harold Belser."
"The thing he valued time." Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked. "I need some time to spend with my son," he said. "Oh, by the way, Janet...thanks for your time!"

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"

Thank you for your time.....

Jillian won, I lost….

I might be able to walk 4 miles in an hour or so, I might be able to run after 2-6 wee ones all week long. I might be able to hike in the woods for hours on end. I might even be able to do 25 push-ups, 75 crunches and 35 squats but I can not keep up with Jillian. God how I hate that disc. Oh I’ll get it, I know I will but until then, I’m working with Bob from the Biggest Loser at Boot camp and also 15-30 minutes on my Wii. I’ll conquer the 30 Day Shred, I will but it might take me way more then 30 days to do it. I’m trying, just not able all the way yet.

Oh I’ve been eating so many veggies I stink (sorry). My calorie in-take has been terrific. My stupid period is just about over with so I am hoping when I step on the scale next week that it’ll say something really nice. I’m hoping!!!

Hopping back on after a little while off has been a bit harder then I thought it would be but I’m getting back into the swing of things. No more snacking after 6:00, no more I think I’m hungry let’s eat this, I’m back to watching the carbs mostly because they seem to scream my name an awful lot. I’m working on learning new recipes. I’m looking up the warps that you guys have told me about. Soon, it’ll all be second nature, at least that what I’ve been told. So until then, I’m working on it.

So that is this weeks update. I hope that you are doing well on your life style changes and diets. I have try to keep up with most of you on what you’ve been doing. I love all that you’ve taught me, the ideas you’ve given me, the support and love that’s there for me. Thank you guys, for everything.

Now have a great evening and a blessed Friday. Take care you all!!

Between kids, chores and animals…

I did this today. I don’t normal share food with you guys but wanted you to see I am working hard on eating and cooking right. So this post is just pictures. ENJOY!!!

Mid August 026

Veggie beef stew. Nothing in there except that and it’s my hamburger so just about 98% lean.

Mid August 028

My most favorite seasons for just about anything I cook.

Mid August 030

This will be chicken veggie soup. All veggies from my garden and my poor (yeah right, not to poor for me), roosters.

Mid August 031

Poor rooster, not poor tummy’s.

Mid August 033

My lunch.

Mid August 034

The kids lunch and they ate the whole thing, we had the clean plate club award today.

Mid August 037Mid August 035

Now it’s time to start peeling tomatoes and getting the ready to freeze. I’m thinking salsa today but not positive yet. We’ll see when I get that far.

Take care and have a blessed afternoon. It’s just about nap time here so that means Julie meet Jillian. Let’s see if she can kill me off right away this time.

God Bless!!!

Ready, set, GO!!!!

So it’s the new week and it’s time to jump back on the train again and get moving. Also to start posting again, you know when you take time off you miss it. Well I do. I miss the writings, the comments, the thoughts and ideas. I dream about writing about this or that, I wonder just how you guys are doing and well….I just missed it. So I’m back and I hope that you’ve hung in there waiting for me but I sure do understand if you’ve moved on too.

So last night Brenda and I went for a 4 mile walk in 65 minutes. I wish I knew how to figure out how fast that is but we did pretty good. We have trimmed about 15 minutes off of time since we started going the 4 miles. We aren’t going to add any more length to our trip but just try to get the time less, especially since we aren’t able to walk this week until 6:30 at night and by 8:00 it’s dark. Today at nap time I will start Jillian and her 30 day shred. I am hoping I can do her M-F and possible Saturday mornings. I know it’s suppose to be the full 30 days but Sunday is not an exercise day, it’s family day and though I’m sure they’d let me if I really wanted too, I don’t want too. I am also going to play on the Wii for a bit as a warm up before Jillian.

So for my weight… Sunday 199, Monday 198, Tuesday 199. I’ll take it and now know that even if I’m not perfect I can maintain, at least for short periods of time. Not that I’m quitting mind you, I still have 18 lbs to go by the end of the year. I did weigh on my scale, not the Wii but will see what that says this afternoon. With it getting really close to “that time of the month” I’m expecting the increase for a few days.

Oh I have a question if anyone sees fit to answer. I read tons and tons about wraps. Wrapping this and that in a wrap to eat. I am stupid, I know I am. I’m a farmer that just makes meat, potatoes, veggies, rolls and desserts for meals and in-between these are hot dishes of all kinds. I haven’t a clue what a wrap is. Is it a soft shell taco? A tortilla? I do make home made tortilla. The ones I do make works out to 16 calories a tortilla, is that good?  Oh I know I could look all this up but so many of you have recipes and ideas and all kinds of things I thought I’d ask you first.

So for meals, I have manage to cut my eating back quite a bit. Today I start tracking it again instead of just doing it in my head. I just need to keep that up until I can see something and know how much, how little or is it possible today. Is it true a person is suppose to just eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday and have a different supper? I read that it makes counting calories and all much easier. I’d think it’d get boring. Does anyone do that?

I have a rabbit I’m going to bake up next week for my daddy and I again. Daddy and I were talking about that this past weekend and drooling just thinking about it. I wish I was a big brave hunter and I’d raise my own rabbits for eating but since I’m not, guess I’ll just have to go and talk to Terri.

Okay, it’s time to peel the beets. I am getting my garden all cleaned out. Other then tomatoes it’s done now. I’ll have a few more bags of beets when done and then I’ll start on the tomatoes that are on the table. I made spaghetti sauce last week. Here’s a couple pictures of what that looks like. I so love that stuff.

August and September 004

The peppers, onions, garlic and seasonings

August and September 068

Oh the smells, I just love it cooking down.

August and September 083

This is about 1/2 of what I did that day, I forgot to take a pictures before I started putting it in the freezer. I freeze some, can some and share some.

So it’s now onwards and upwards to the more healthy, better, physically fit me. I am running out of fat lady clothes, YEAH!!! and refuse to buy any new clothes until I reach my goal. I got to go to the Goodwill on Saturday and picked up two pairs of jeans, an 18 and a 16. Well the 18 can fit me and you in them and the 16 are pretty good. I wish I had just tried them on instead of thinking they’d be fine. I also wish that there was a standard 16 or 18 so a person could just go and buy a pair and they’d fit.  I have two size 16 shorts that I can barely get one leg in and my other two fit perfect. I have 1 pair of 18’s I couldn’t get a leg in either but another pair I have to wear a belt to hold up. But….they aren’t 20’s or 22’s any more so I’m not complaining to much. I also got me an XL shirt that fits perfect and a large that fits, no more 22/24’s there either. I’m trying folks.

Please see if you can answer my question about the wraps and same meals.

Now take care and have a blessed day today. Good luck with you life style changes and your diets. And mostly, thank you for hanging in there and all your love and support. I know, for a fact I know, that if it wasn’t for you guys there is no way I would of lost the 28 lbs I have now or the 40+ inches in fat. It’s the support guys, I know it is. THANK YOU!!!

God Bless you all!

Day one…..again…..

Well not really because I just took a little time off and in that time I didn’t screw up tons. I however didn’t exercise much at all. I did go on a 5.8K hike on the Washburn Trails north of Outing. A couple 2 mile power walks but that’s about all. I did eat donuts, M&M’s, Cheetoe’s while camping but none in excess. I still have over 1/2 bag chips, 3/4 bag M&M’s but no donuts but then again I wasn’t the only one huffing them down. I have found out my tummy is tender. When I eat things I haven’t been for the past 8 months it doesn’t like it. My taste buds thought it was pretty good but not my tummy and since that thing screams louder then my taste buds I will be better at listening now that school is starting and so is my life style change.

I have 18 lbs to lose before the end of the year. I have sit-ups that need doing, weight lifting that needs doing, more walks and I want to start Jillian again. My first day back with Jillian was going to be this week (school starts Thursday here for the elementary kids) but since I’ll be gone both Thursday and Friday with my grandpa’s funeral and then burial out of town I’ll give a fresh new start, Day one, on Monday. I will however watch what goes in my mouth because my tummy is still arguing over this past weekend.

I have to set some goals though. This not writing things down is dumb especially since we all know how important it is. So for everyone to see and know I have some things to write.

1. Even though Buttershots taste pretty good camping, a whole damn pint of the stuff, I will not be drinking that again for a very long time. Stupid people do stupid stuff when they only drink once every 3-4 years and then regret it later on. Can’t share but use your imagination. I wonder how many calories were in that bottle….no I really don’t want to know but I bet plenty.

2. I need to not worry so much. I pray for guidance but I don’t always wait for an answer. I try and try to do what’s right but things don’t always end the way I’d like. I know, if I had waited a bit longer, talked a bit more to God then things would turn out differently or maybe not but I need more patience and not to worry so much.

3. Life Style Change, time to work very hard on it. To really look at new ways to cook for my family. To work in exercise daily, to learn a new way of life. A healthy way.

4. To take the time I need for me. I know that sounds selfish but as I grow older I have learned that if I don’t, I’m not good for anyone. I’m not very good at it but somehow I need to start craving out some me time. To do what? I don’t know but find something that’s good for me.

On Monday I will weigh (Tuesday and Wednesday.  It is suggested that you just don’t take one weight and believe it especially if you weigh in just a couple times a month) and measure and give you the information to help me finish up this part of my life style challenge. Then to learn to maintain, to learn forever what is good and healthy and to learn what moderation is all about.

So my friends, take care and thank you for being patient with me. This life style change is a constant learning experience and even though it isn’t easy, well it is so worth all the effort because I have lost 28 lbs, 45 inches and feel a thousand times better and after the next 18 lbs are gone well then it’ll be a job to learn maintaining and staying healthy.

Have a great Friday, a terrific weekend. Take care and God Bless!!

My grandpa…Norman Victor Bill

My grandpa passed away yesterday. I don’t know what to say to help you know just how great a man he was. He was my grandpa. He’d greet me each visit with a “hi-hi”, a huge hug and a smile. He would talk in Swedish with huge smiles knowing I didn’t understand a thing he was saying. A long time ago Mike did an interview with grandpa and made a recording of him counting and speaking a little bit. I don’t know where it is right now but I am going to find it this week. He so loved Mike. He was always so proud of everything Mike did and he’d make sure everyone else knew too. He was a man that loved kids, kids of any size really. My daycare kids loved him as much as he them. When we’d do our fire trucks at school he’d help grandma watch my little ones for an hour or two. The last wee one he got to spoil was Hannah and I remember coming back from school with the fire trucks and both him and Hannah were sound asleep in his chair. Hannah would stop in to say hi to “pop-pop” when we’d go visit. Friday I took all my daycare kids to say good-bye to grandpa. They didn’t know it was a final good-bye but it’s something they’ll remember if they want too.

Before we left for camping this weekend, I sat with grandpa and he held my hand. He kept reaching out for me and he’d squeeze. He couldn’t speak much anymore but a visit early in the week had him looking at me and telling me he was hanging in there. He had beautiful eyes, eyes that always knew what was up. His hugs were strong and loving.

I’m going to really miss grandpa. Did you know, of course you couldn’t I didn’t tell you yet, that him and grandma were married for over 70 years. Can you just imagine being married that long? I hope that one day my grandson/granddaughter can say that about Jim and I. Can you imagine being married that long and now have to face life alone? I feel so sorry for grandma.

Grandpa leaves behind a wife, 2 sons and daughter-in-laws, 5 grand children, 6 great grandkids and a life time of friends that who all loved him for always.

Thursday is grandpa’s funeral at his favorite church and then on Friday we are taking him quite a ways to be buried with his family.

I so loved my grandpa and I am so glad that I know that he is in heaven with all his family waiting for all of us one day to be reunited. I will miss grandpa terrible.
